Welcome back to the series of Ascendants. Today we gonna be discussing the Taurus rising and its details. Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus. It is a fixed zodiac sign and one of the Earth Elemental zodiacs along with Virgo and Capricorn.



PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES


Taurus ascendant people are very beautiful with pleasing personalities. They have average height and are generally not very tall. Have robust physiques with strongly built bodies (just like their pictorial representation- the bull). As ruled by Venus, a sedentary lifestyle can lead to unwanted weight gain, especially in the lower back region. Have a square face with round bright eyes. Usually curly brownish hair with a heavy voice and clear skin tone. The limbs are short but strong and exhibit strength of broad wrists and ankles. The neck is strong with slight forward stooping shoulders. 

BASIC CHARACTERISTICS AND TRAITS


Taurus ascendant people are usually very calm and composed. Strong-headed and stubborn to the core. They are very sensual and have an innate love for creativity, beauty and sensualness. In my last blog, I mentioned the ascendant and how it is significant in determining our essential personality traits and how we approach our surroundings. 

Today we are going to know about the first sign in the zodiacal belt i.e. Aries rising or Aries ascendant. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars and is a cardinal sign. It is one of the Fire Elemental signs along with Leo and Sagittarius. So let's discuss everything about it. Just stay glued...


PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES


Natives of Aries ascendant have very prominent and angular facial features with a strong chin, nose and mouth. Have an athletic body, lean and muscular. Hope you all are in the best of health and in high spirits. Today's post is all about your Ascendant i.e. The Rising star.

It gives me immense happiness to observe that this topic has not only gathered people's interest but also invoke in them the curiosity and eagerness to know more about it when it comes to comparing it with other dimensions of astrology such as Sun signs, moon signs, etc. Such that people are going beyond the superfluous zodiac signs and are keen to explore varied strata of astrology.


As I have already discussed in my previous blogs about different houses in Vedic Astrology in which I have mentioned about 12 houses in the natal chart and their respective significance. These 12 houses are considered a record of our entire life which I have already mentioned in my previous blogs. Out of these 12 houses, the house which holds the highest significance in one's life is the first house which is known as the Ascendant, the Rising sign or star, the Lagna. It represents the physical attributes of the person, overall physique, health, early life, childhood, character, complexion, vices, virtues, willpower, age, nature, basic inclination and approach towards different aspects of life, strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes.


So what is ascendant and how to locate it in your birth chart?

At the time of our birth, the sign which rises at the easternmost horizon in that place is what is considered the Ascendant or the rising sign for the native. It is the astrological degree of the sign that ascends on the eastern horizon at a specific time and location of birth. Therefore the exact time and place of birth of the native are of utmost importance when calculating the ascendant and other planetary considerations of the concerned person. The Ascendant takes almost two and a half hours to move to the subsequent sign, hence it shows the specific personality trait which is specific to the person in the specific ascendant in a given social setting. 


Now as discussed in the previous blogs the sign in which the sun sits in the natal chart is considered our Vedic Sun sign. And same goes for the Moon sign as well (we will be discussing it in future blogs). While this phenomenon can happen in any house out of the 12 houses of a natal chart. But when we talk about the Ascendant, it is the constant that always occupies the first house. The Ascendant never shifts to subsequent houses, it always remains the first house occupant. 


The Ascendant, as well as the Ascendant Lord (planet ruling the sign), are considered important areas of analysis for the astrologers as it unfolds many key features of the natal chart and about the person in specific. It is an outer shield or mask of the person that is perceived by the world. It is the first impression one leaves on others. It is the amalgamation of both the inner and outer self of the person where one naturally and innately exhibits certain traits that become the personality of the person for the world to know and perceive. It is the spontaneous reaction we exhibit in a given situation. It is our outward style and approach towards different events and situations. This is how we deal in our day-to-day affairs.


Now let us quickly take an example of how to calculate the ascendant in a given birth chart.




In this image, as can be appreciated, the first house i.e. the center topmost house has no. #2 sign. Now as we all know that no. #2 stands for Taurus zodiac sign in astrology. This means that the Ascendant for this natal chart is Taurus and the ascendant lord is Venus( planetary lordship has already been discussed in the previous post). Consequently, the person appears to have a pleasing face, is affectionate, resourceful, self-indulgent, stubborn, and loves spending time in luxurious, serene, and beautiful surroundings. 

Likewise, every ascendant has its own traits and certain characteristics which make each one different and unique in its own sense. ( we shall be discussing each ascendant in future blogs ).

Hey guys! Hope you all are in good health and spirits. 


Today's post is one of the most basic yet very important. BASIC because we will be talking about Sun signs which many of you are already aware of while IMPORTANT because this is not going to be what you actually know about your Sun sign.


Very often we excitingly jump on to Astro sections of newspapers and horoscope articles in a magazine or social sites to know about our daily, weekly, and monthly horoscopes. But there are also many times that you end up realizing that the stuff mentioned about your sun or zodiac signs is not what you actually are and doesn't gel with your personality traits, approach towards life, and the way you deal with day to day situations. And then comes the situation where person either stops believing in sun signs or rather convince oneself to believe in it psychologically that "it has to be true as this is my sun sign". So why comes this difference in what you actually are and what your "existing sun sign" is telling you?


This is solely because you guys are referring to your WESTERN SUN SIGN and not the VEDIC SUN SIGN. Yes, the sun signs or zodiacal signs we talk about in general are all basically WESTERN SUN SIGNS or the Sun Signs based on Western Astrology. While the Sun signs that are based on Vedic Astrology are known as VEDIC SUN SIGNS which many of you are unaware of and that's what makes the entire difference in one's understanding and clarity of sun signs in general.


So let us briefly understand what these two concepts of Sun Signs are in general. Here, I am not going to jot down the entire differences between the Vedic and Western Astrology (for that kindly refer : https://www.thehailphoenix.com/2019/07/difference-between-vedic-and-western.html) but to make you guys understand that what is the actual difference between the type of Sun Signs mentioned above.


WESTERN SUN SIGNS (BASED ON WESTERN OR TROPICAL ASROLOGY)


This concept of astrology is based on the Earth and the seasons experienced on it. According to this, there is a fixed reference point on the Vulnar Equinox or the March Equinox in the northern hemisphere. And when the Earth revolves around the Sun, it does in such a fashion that the Sun enters the first degree of the first sign of the Zodiacal belt i.e. the Aries at the same fixed reference point i.e. on 21st March every year. Hence, it uses the first day of the spring season as the beginning of the zodiac i.e. when the sun enters the sign Aries.

And since the cycle of seasons has not changed and is constant despite the change in the original positions of the constellations over the period of time, hence Tropical or Western astrology uses the calender dates for determining the Sun signs. For Example: 21st March to 19th April is always Aries sun sign and is fixed.

 

VEDIC SUN SIGNS (BASED ON VEDIC OR SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY)


Vedic or Sidereal Astrology is purely based on the 'stars' and 'constellations'. It takes into the account the actual movement of planets against the fixed backdrop of stars and constellations. Now we all know that the earth revolves around the sun in fixed elliptical path and completes one such revolution in approximately 365 days. Also it rotates around its axis which marks the completion of one full day of 24 hours.


The Earth changes its tilt around the axis and kind of wobbles in its movement. Hence, there is a precession of the equinoxes which causes the actual position of stars to appear as if moving backwards over a period of time. Due to this particular phenomenon, the constellations have changed their position from the original one over the period of time. Hence, the Sun enters the first sign of the Zodiacal belt i.e. the Aries a little earlier than the fixed reference point i.e. the Vulnar Equinox used in Western Astrology (mentioned above in the blog). Therefore, currently there is a difference of 23 degrees between both the systems of Astrology (Vedic sun signs are currently 23 degrees behind the Western sun signs). Thus, you need to subtract 23 degrees from the planetary degree of the Sun in the Western Natal chart to actually derive to your Vedic Sun Sign.

 Hola Guys! Hope you all are keeping well and in good spirits. Today's post marks the end of my current series on Different Gemstones according to the nine main Planets in the Vedic Astrology. 

This post is on the gemstone related to the other Shadowy or Illusionary Planet Ketu i.e. the Southern Node of the Moon. The gemstone is called "Cat's Eye". Also known as 'Lehsuniya' in Hindi as its resemblance to a milky Garlic bulb (Lussan in Hindi).

This Gemstone produces the most distinct 'Cat's Eye' or "CHATOYANCE" effect. Contains high density of parallel fibrous inclusions and 'Cat's eye' is a line of light that reflects from the dome of the cabochon at the right angles to the parallel inclusions. When the gem is rotated while the light is flashed on the gem, it gives an image of the opening and closing of an eye of a cat, hence the name is "Cat's Eye".

It has immense benefits to the wearer if it is worn by proper consultation from the learned astrologer and happens to suit you. These are as follows:

  • Very beneficial for improving fortunes and financial gains especially during its Mahadasha.
  • It aids in rendering the psychic protection such as that from evil eyes and Tantric acts.
  • It is the stone of choice for enhancing the spiritual enlightenment of oneself.

  • The best Cat's eye is unheated, untreated and naturally which gives the best astrological benefits to the native. 

  • The colour of the Cat's eye is Yellow to Yellowish-grey, Greyish-green to brown and Brownish yellow. If the colour is too light or too dark then it might be a fake stone or of semi-precious variety. 

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Cat's eye is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected such a  Parallel needle or Hollow tube-like fibrous inclusions- a line of light across surface of the stone that orients perpendicular to the induced fibres. The gem has a milky appearance and transparent gems are almost never found. Typically 'Milk and Honey Appearance' is seen.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Cat's eye is 7.5-8.5.

  • Its chemical composition and the mineral is known as Chrysoberyl(BeO.Al2O3).

  • Its refractive index is 1.744-1.755.

  • Its specific gravity is 3.70-3.78.

  • The best quality Cat's eye comes from Sri-Lanka, Brazil and India(mainly in Orissa, Kerela, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Bihar). Also in South Africa, Russia, Burma and various locations around the U.S.A.

  • The average density is 3.74.

  • It should be at least 6 carats in weight so as to give prominent results. In general, it should be 1/10th of your body weight.

  • There should be uniformity of colour in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines and blemishes.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.


    • How to identify an original Cat's eye?

    • If the real stone is put in the dark place, it shines like the eyes of a cat. 
    • If the original stone is rubbed against a cloth, it gives more brilliance to it which marks its authenticity.
    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original Cat's eye will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • The colour of the original stone should not be too dark or vivid.
    • Keep the stones in your hand. If it starts feeling warm or hot, then it isn't the original one.
    • No significant inclusions will be there in original Cat'e eye. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones. 
    • If you are getting the Cat'e eye at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original Cat'e eye are expensive. While the synthetic Cat'e eye comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.

    How to wear Cat'e eye?

    • Should Strictly be worn only after the consultation by the learned astrologer.
    • Should be worn on Tuesday of waxing moon period (Shukla Paksha).
    • Should be worn in between the two hours before and after the sunrise.
    • The best metal to wear it in is Silver or Gold (preferable) or in Panchdhaatu (an alloy of 5 elements Gold, Silver, Iron, Zinc and Copper. Sometimes Tin or Lead can be used in place of Zinc).

    Rituals related to wearing a Cat's eye.

    • You can make it as Oval or circular in shape as per the recommendation.
    • You can either wear it as a pendant, bracelet or a ring.
    • Preferably it is worn in as a ring and at least 6 carats in weight.
    • Dip it in a Panchamrit (a mixture of raw cow milk, cow fat i.e Ghee, honey or sugar, yoghurt and Gangajal i.e. Holy water) one night before the morning you wanna wear it.
    • In the morning, do your prayer rituals as you do in routine. Wash the ring with regular water and dip it in holy water just before wearing it.
    • Always seek blessings of Almighty and pray to them for the fulfilment of the purpose for which you are gonna wear the gemstone.
    • The "Beej Mantra- Ohm Sraam Sreem Sraum Sah Ketvay Namah" or "Om Hring Aing Ketave Namah"  to be recited 108 times so as to activate the stone.
    • One should donate cloth and some sweets to the people. Offer Dakshina (money) according to one's capacity to the Brahmin or Priest at the temple. 
    • You should feed the poor and needy, especially on Tuesday. (This is the most pious thing and should be done anyways without any purpose or wanting anything in return. We should feed anything in any day we want but for this, Tuesday is preferable).
    • Keep your stones clean.

    Heya guys! Hope you are doing well. So today I bring to you a new post on the Gemstone Hessonite which is also called 'Gomed' in Hindi. This stone is helpful in enhancing the positive effects and reducing the mal-effects of shadowy planet Rahu which is also called Northern Node of Moon.

  • The best Hessonite is unheated, untreated and naturally formed which gives the best astrological benefits to the native. 

  • The colour of the Hessonite is Honey coloured to deep Reddish-orange. Green, yellow, brown, pink, purple and grayish black varieties can also be seen. If the colour is too light or too dark then it might be a fake stone or of semi-precious variety. Its colour is due to rich amount of Iron and Manganese.

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Hessonite is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected such a honey coloured thread-like inclusions but should be very less for it to be the original one. As Hessonite won't have any significant inclusions at all.  

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Hessonite is 6.5-8.5.

  • Its chemical composition is Calcium aluminium silicate.

  • Its refractive index is 1.780-1.889.

  • Its specific gravity is 3.1-4.3.

  • The best quality Hessonite comes from Sri-Lanka, Austria, Africa, India, France, Russia and various locations around Siberia and Brazil.

  • The average density is 3.65.

  • It should be at least 6 carats in weight so as to give prominent results. In general, it should be 1/10th of your body weight.

  • There should be uniformity of colour in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines and blemishes.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.


    • How to identify an original Hessonite?

    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original Hessonite will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • The colour of the original stone should not be too dark or vivid.
    • Keep the stones in your hand. If it starts feeling warm or hot, then it isn't the original one.
    • No significant inclusions will be there in original Hessonite. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones. 
    • If you are getting the Hessonite at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original hessonite are expensive. While the synthetic hessonite comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.

    How to wear Hessonite?

    • Should Strictly be worn only after the consultation by the learned astrologer.
    • Should be worn on Saturday of waxing moon period (Shukla Paksha).
    • Should be worn in between the two hours before and after the sunrise.
    • The best metal to wear it in is Silver. Avoid wearing it in Gold or in Panchdhaatu (an alloy of 5 elements Gold, Silver, Iron, Zinc and Copper. Sometimes Tin or Lead can be used in place of Zinc).

    Rituals related to wearing a Hessonite.


    • You can make it as Oval or circular in shape as per the recommendation.
    • You can either wear it as a pendant, bracelet or a ring.
    • Preferably it is worn in as a ring and at least 6 carats in weight.
    • Dip it in a Panchamrit (a mixture of raw cow milk, cow fat i.e Ghee, honey or sugar, yoghurt and Gangajal i.e. Holy water) one night before the morning you wanna wear it.
    • In the morning, do your prayer rituals as you do in routine. Wash the ring with regular water and dip it in holy water just before wearing it.
    • Always seek blessings of Almighty and pray to them for the fulfilment of the purpose for which you are gonna wear the gemstone.
    • The "Beej Mantra- Ohm Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahvay Namah" or "Aum Ram Rahave Namah"  to be recited 108 times so as to activate the stone.
    • One should donate mustard oil, Black sesame seeds, Blanket, Blue coloured cloth and some sweets to the people. Offer Dakshina (money) according to one's capacity to the Brahmin or Priest at the temple. 
    • You should feed the poor and needy, especially on Saturdays. (This is the most pious thing and should be done anyways without any purpose or wanting anything in return. We should feed anything in any day we want but for this, Saturday is preferable).

You know the more inclusions, the lesser transparency and lesser the price. Natural Inclusions in Emerald are of Thread-like in nature but it should not have any black or bluish spot, cracks or knots. Clarity of the Emerald is of very importance. Should have perfect symmetry. The popular cuts can be Rectangular-Step Cut or Oval.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Emerald is 7.5-8. It's composed of mainly three minerals which are chromium, vanadium and iron which imparts it the beautiful intense colour.

  • Its refractive index is 1.570-1.585.

  • Its specific gravity is 2.72.

  • The best quality Emeralds come from Columbia, Zambia while Brazil and Zimbabwe also export good quality Emeralds. The  Columbian ones are majorly used in jewelleries while the Zambian category is what's being preferred for astrological purpose due to its hue and colour.

  • The average density is 2.70.

  • Birefringence is 0.0040- 0.0070.

  • Species of Emerald: Beryl species. It is Cyclosilicate.

  • It should be at least 1/10th of the body weight so as to give prominent results. In general, 6-7 ratti is ideal for astrological purpose.

  • There should be uniformity of colour and transparency in the entire stone.

    • If you are getting the Emerald at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original ones are expensive. While the synthetic Emerald comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • Emerald quality depends on the 4C's i.e. Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat weight. Emeralds which are bought by the experienced  graders are to be trusted than any other cheaper version. Finest quality of emeralds are even expensive than diamonds.
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.
