The Mercury in Astrology

The planet Mercury is the most versatile planet when it comes to astrology. It is A Master of Movements- A Wanderer in true sense. It not only represents the way we think but also the quality and speed of our thought process. It is the key factor in communication and reasoning departments of our lives. It represents our Intellect, rationality, logical analysis, humour, wit, etc. It is how we choose words to articulate and use these for the mode of our self-expression and understanding of things; to convince, influence or impact others or circumstances in general. It is how well our mind can negotiate with day to day situations and how rationally and logically analyse these to fetch solutions out of the same.

Scientific/Astronomical significance of the Mercury.

The Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. Also known as 'MESSENGER OF GOD' by Roman Deity Mercury. It is also the smallest and the innermost planet amongst the main planets in our Solar System. Its orbital period around the sun of approximately 88 days is the shortest of all the planets. Has severe temperature differences from extreme hot to extreme cold despite having the closest orbit to the Sun. It has 4,879 kilometres of a diameter which is 38% diameter of the Earth with a mass of 5.5% of Earth's mass.
It has metallic and silicates materials on its surface. It is approximately 75-77 million kilometres from the Earth.

Astrological significance of the Mercury.

As I mentioned in my older post-https://www.thehailphoenix.com/2019/08/the-moon-in-astrology.html about how the Moon denotes our mind and emotional thoughts at a subconscious level, the Mercury is what articulates these thoughts on reasoning and analytical grounds and give it a concrete shape and structure which eventually ripens to form our thought process and mental make-up. It represents our perspective and opinions of things and life in general. It is the way we choose to adapt to different life situations and deal with it using the rationality of thoughts. It is called 'BUDH' which signifies intelligence. It is a dual-natured sign ruling Gemini and Virgo in the birth chart.

So let us learn a few interesting facts about this planet:

If such Mercury is afflicted by any magnificence then the native may shrewdly use their intelligence to make things go their way.

The Mars in Astrology

The study of Mars as a planet or astrologically has always intrigued us as humans a lot. So much that many blockbusters movies have its basis. It is perhaps the only planet thought of having water and life much before the Earth. Mars is the strength in every field in the body, it is muscular strength. In politics, it is the strength of armed forces. In psychology, it is the strength of the intellect. That is why Mars is called 'Neta'- The General, the Military Man.

Mars is strong as well as the hot-headed planet, also known as 'ROMAN GOD OF WAR'. It represents warriors in life who refuse to give up in harsh times. This fierce and aggressive red planet renders the person with energy, will and a relentless fighting spirit to thrive and prosper through odds and achieve which is only being dreamt of.

It helps in both, fight to defend as well as fight to conquer the world. It brings passion to intimacy, adrenaline to adventure seekers and risk-takers, strength and masculinity to warriors and courage to executioners of any task in hand.

Scientific/Astronomical Significance of Mars.

The hot red rustic colour of Mars is due to the iron-rich minerals on its surface which according to NASA, get oxidized or rusted to appear red in colour.

It is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest (after Mercury) in the solar system. It is just a little more than half the size of the Earth with approximately 15% of its volume, 11% of its mass and an average of 200-230 million kilometres apart from the latter.

Astrological Significance of Mars.

Mars is the first ruler and the starting planet in Kaalpurush Kundli or the Default Birth Chart (as Aries is the starting sign in the default chart and Mars is the ruling planet of the sign). It is the supreme punisher or executioner. It gives the ability to take actions and in the culmination of the decisions made. Deals with all kinds of physical energies including Sexual. It is about having strong will power, ambitions, competitiveness, courage and power to make it big and magnanimous. It is just a kick of initiation of any task or work to be done.
Many people are scared due to one of its main implications in the Vedic astrology which is considered one of the criteria during matchmaking in marriage consultation and that is being Manglik or Non-Manglik.
I shall try to break many superstitions related to it in my subsequent posts as well and thus, may be able to put a stop to people in getting trapped into a false astrological snare.

Full of youth, vitality, enthusiasm and belief in originality to reach the goal. Adventurous and risk-taker, dynamic attitude and loves facing challenges for final gains. A passionate and aggressive (but wise) approach to life.

#NOTE: Too strong Mars is rather harmful in which a person becomes too hot-headed and overconfident. He becomes stubborn, too aggressive and self-destructive sometimes. Such a native turns out to be bit selfish, arrogant, and exhibit recklessness towards others. May have an excessive sexual urge which may lead to having multiple partners or Extra-marital Affairs as well. So the overall chart analysis is necessary for a better conclusion or prediction of events.

MALEFIC MARS EFFECTS:

Malefic or afflicted Mars renders native with timidness, fearfulness and ambitionless attitude. Illogical aggression and stubbornness. The Moon in Astrology

In Astrology for the Millions, by Grant Lewi: “When you “know what you mean but you can’t say it,” it is your Moon that knows it and your Sun that can’t say it. “Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears” are the thoughts of your Moon’s nature. The wordless ecstasy, the mute sorrow, the secret dream, the esoteric picture of yourself that you can’t get across to the world, or which the world doesn’t comprehend or value – these are the products of the Moon in your horoscope. When you are misunderstood, it is your Moon nature, expressed imperfectly through the Sun sign, that you feel is betrayed. When you know what you ought to do, but can’t find the right way to do it, it is your Moon that knows and your Sun that refuses to react in harmony. Also, when you “don’t know why I said that,” it was your Moon expressing despite your Sun (if you are innerly satisfied with the involuntary speech), or the Sun expressing against the will of the Moon (if you are displeased with what has slipped out). Things you know without thought – intuitions, hunches, instincts – are the products of the Moon. Modes of expression that you feel are truly your deepest self belong to the Moon: art, letters, creative work of any kind; sometimes love; sometimes business. Whatever you feel is most deeply yourself, whether or not you are able to do anything about it in the outer world, is the product of your Moon and of the sign your Moon occupies at birth.” {#}

Scientific/Astronomical significance of the Moon.

The Moon is the natural satellite of the Earth revolving around the latter with a diameter of 27% and the mass of 1.23% of that of the Earth.

It is approximately 384,000 km from the Earth and takes 27.32 days to complete one revolution around the latter.

Since the Moon revolves around the Earth with its same side facing the Earth each time, we are able to experience the different phases of the Moon due to the light reflected by it directed on it from the Sun.

Hence, at the time of Full Moon, the sequence of placement is The Sun ➔➔ Earth ➔➔ Moon and at New Moon it The Sun ➔➔ Moon ➔➔ Earth.

Astrological significance of the Moon.

The Moon is the mind. And when the placement of the moon is strong in one's natal chart, it bestows life and strength to the native. It signifies the inner self and Emotional Quotient of the person. It tells how much stable or fickle-minded a person is in the unexpected or harsh times. It also represents the mood swings and instincts just similar to the pattern of the ebbs of the tides happen due to its gravitational forces. The phases of the moon not only affect our moods but also the feminity and fertility. It is all about love, peace, care, nurturing, compassion and sensitivity. The Sun in Astrology

According to Maharishi Parashara's 'Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra' - "Surya Atma Jagatah Tastu Shashcha" i.e. the Sun is the soul of all that exists, whether inert or moving. The Sun is vital to the very existence of things. The word Atma (soul) means the self of a man is studied and considered from the condition of the Sun in his/her birth chart.

Scientific/Astronomical significance of the Sun.

Sun is not the planet but a luminary, a star that shines bright, being the centre of the solar system. A giant red plasma ball which was formed more than 4.5 billion years ago and comprised mainly of helium and hydrogen.
It is the prime life-giving force without which no life is possible on the Earth. It thus acts as the soul, the pivot and the support to all that exists.

Astrological significance of the Sun.

Since we all know that the Sun is not the planet but on astrological grounds, it is considered one of the 9 planets that constitute the Vedic astrology.

The below-mentioned facts shall make your understanding of the Sun in astrology, simple and precise.

Planetary Cabinet: King

Planetary Nature: Malefic

Planetary Complexion: Blood-red

Planetary Deities: Fire(Agni)

Relationship Governed: Father

Sex/Gender: Male

Element: Fire

Planetary Caste: Warriors(Kshatriyas)

Guna: Sattwika

Planetary Abode: Temple

Planetary Taste: Pungent

Planetary Period: Ayana

Planetary Directional Strength: South Direction

Physical Appearance: Honey-coloured eyes, square body, clean habits, is bilious, intelligent, manly and limited hair on the head.

Transit: 1 Month

Direction: East

Day: Sunday

Metal: Gold

Gemstone: Ruby(Manik)

Body Parts Ruled: Bones, Heart, Head, Eyes, Hair and Overall Health and Vitality.

Friendly Planets: Jupiter, Mars, Moon

Inimical Planets: Venus, Saturn

Neutral Planets: Mercury

Own Sign: Leo

Mooltrikone Sign: Leo 20 degrees

Exalted Sign: Aries 10 degrees

Debilitated Sign: Libra 10 degrees

Mahadasha Period: 6 years

Ruling Number: 1(One)

Natural Significator: 1st, 9th and 10th houses

Profession/Career Associated: Govt. sector jobs, Leaders, Politicians, Administrative and Managerial jobs, Armed forces, Civil servants, Gemologists, Consultants etc.

BENEFIC SUN EFFECTS:

Disciplined, Honest, Robust, Courageous, Strong-willed, Authoritative, Good Leader, Ambitious, Bold, Confident, Straight-forward, Good Administrative and Managerial abilities, Enjoy good Govt. services and associations, successful Politician, etc.

#NOTE: Too strong Sun can be bad as it may impart individual with lots of ego, aggression and stubbornness where he constantly urges for attention and appreciation from others. He suffers from superiority complex as well. So this should be kept in check.

MALEFIC SUN EFFECTS:

Missing of great opportunities in life, Unnecessary expenditure, May lose reputation in Govt. or legal litigations, Low self-confidence, Reserved, Obstacles and hurdles in life, Not so good relationship with father, Difficulty in getting fame despite being talented, less hair on the head or bald, etc. Frustrations may lead to cynicism sometimes.

However, according to me, Sun can never be weak in the birth chart despite being debilitated. This is a sort of an eclipse of the Sun which may push the person with the bad placement of the Sun to suffer its mal effects. Such a person may feel relieved after the age of 35 years when he would start getting recognition for his hard work and talents.

##DISCLAIMER:
This was my take on the Sun in a very general form without taking into consideration the other aspects of astrology such as placements, aspects, conjunctions, etc. Proper analysis of the entire birth chart is of utmost importance in the process of final prediction for the person concerned.

So don't get too excited or disheartened by the general outlook or effects of the planets. Astrology is much deeper than it appears. So enjoy the ride!!

Difference between Vedic and Western Astrology

Isn't it so peculiar how most of us, irrespective of being an ardent astrology believer or not, get attracted to the zodiac section of magazines or newspapers? Often we go through sections telling about our zodiac signs and only due to being born in a certain month of the calendar, we tend to quickly jump on to our respective zodiac and then start relating it to our own selves.

But have you ever tried to really feel and relate that to yourselves completely? Or is it just a psychological backdrop because you know it is your zodiac?

Why you and another person born in the same month or even the same date, are so different from each other?

Why there are many times your personality and character or traits simply don't match with what's being written concerning the specific zodiac?

The answer to all these questions is both simple yet complex.

This is because of the fundamental difference between

The Vedic Astrology and The Western Astrology.

  • As I have already mentioned in my previous article, Vedic astrology has its origin since the times of Rig Vedas and its roots go back thousands of years, more than 5000 years ago at least. While Western astrology can be traced back to life and intellectual development in ancient Greece- influenced by Egyptian civilisation of Greeks and Babylons 2000 years back.

  • Vedic astrology is based on the Sidereal zodiacs (constellation) and is a cosmic based astrology constituting the Dasha system, 9 planets, 12 zodiacs, 27 lunar constellations (nakshatras) with the span of 13 degrees and 20 minutes, whereas Western astrology is the Sun based astrology which relies on Tropical zodiacs (seasonal).

  • In Vedic astrology, the actual motion of all the planets in the cosmic space is considered. While in Western astrology, Sun is the main body and it doesn't take this fact into consideration that Earth never comes back to the same position after its one complete revolution.

  • Vedic astrology chooses a starting point for the beginning of Aries and proceeds in equal 30 degrees sections for subsequent signs, whereas, Western astrology deals with the relationship of the Sun with the Earth's tropics i.e. the onset of 4 seasons when Sun crosses the equator (the first day of the spring season in the northern hemisphere) marks the beginning of Aries Sign.

  • Vedic astrology is far more precise and covers all areas and domains of one's life. Western astrology is not that level precise and based more on psychology and personal traits of the individual.

  • In Vedic astrology, the house and sign in which the Sun sits is your Sun sign i.e. your actual self and soul. In Western astrology, your date of birth decides your Sun sign which is so generic in nature and applies to everyone born in the month concerned and hence vague.

  • Vedic astrology gives a lot of importance to the Moon sign and divisional charts, along with nakshatras and Dasha system owing to its accuracy and precision to future prediction. Western astrology doesn't take this into consideration at all.

  • In Vedic astrology, each planet can be associated with another planet in the given house through aspects and conjunctions with main 7th aspect. Jupiter, Saturn and Mars have additional aspects which we will be dealing in subsequent posts. Western astrology has aspects as conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition with less than 10 degrees orbs.

  • Uranus, Neptune and Pluto have negligible roles to play in the Vedic astrology whereas, Western astrology has significant consideration of these for the purpose of predictions.

  • Combustion of planets plays a significant role in chart analysis in the Vedic astrology while Western astrology doesn't take this as a major consideration factor.

So, guys, these are just a few differences out of many others which I will be dealing in my subsequent posts as and when required.

Good day !!

The Vedic Astrology

Vedic Astrology, also known as Jyotish- the science of light (also Indian or Hindu Astrology) is one of the important constituents of the Vedic knowledge that primarily has the main aim of improving and uplifting the human's life and their welfare by ameliorating their sufferings.

It is also known as "VEDANG" i.e. "LIMB OF VEDAS" which signifies its lineage and origin especially mentioned in Rig Vedas i.e. the most ancient and sacred of texts. Believe it or not but Vedic astrology is perhaps the oldest, deepest, greatest as well as the typical science of all times.

It deals with the delineation of life from conception to death and even beyond these realms. It relies on sidereal and planetary placements seen in the sky at the time of birth. The cardinal underlying principles being those celestial conditions i.e. planetary placements and positions or combinations at birth with respect to time, influence to determine the pattern of the whole life of humans and the respective events in their life and relation to other entities on the Earth.

Astrology is like any other science, its practice would remain an art and lead to different interpretations in different parts of the world. But the concepts and principles of the Vedic astrology by far progressively became lucid and amazingly true.

Hence, it is only through the study of the Vedic astrology that the secret of fate and free will can be deciphered on a logical plane. Its principles are quite intricate yet simple, elaborative yet easy, and vast yet comprehensible. At times, it may appear as if these are contradicting to what has been established but proper going through the various permutations and combinations, one can reach the conclusion it was mentioned and supposed to be.

A Healthy Relationship

It is very strange and ironical as well as how almost everyone wants to be in a strong relationship and is ready to be into the one in no time. Some of them just want a tag to be into relationships, while there are others who truly invest a lot to make it happen and flourishing.

They are basically many categories of relationships- deep, platonic, superfluous, namesake, etc etc. But this post has nothing to do with the type of relationships rather what according to me, a healthy relationship actually means. Here, it is not only just about the relationship a man and a women shares but about every relationship humans dwell into.

As we all know pure and unconditional love is what makes any relationship strong but there are yet many things which aid in building the stronger bond. Hence, below are certain signs of a positive and healthy (any) relationship.

  • TRUST: This is so needless to mention how much significant trust is in any relationship. It is an absolute backbone of any deep bond.

  • COMMUNICATION: Being able to communicate freely in a relationship is its true essence. It can overcome any sort of conflict, disagreement, argument or mere difference of opinions at a base level which may result in the death of a bond in the long run if people involved don't communicate properly.

  • TAKE RESPONSIBILITY: One should always take responsibility for his/her actions rather putting blames on each other or circumstances whatsoever.

  • EMPATHY: No matter how practical or logical you may be, empathy is a must in a relationship. It is a sign of strength and not weakness.

  • RESPECT: Again it is something really non-negotiable. It is the life of any relationship. Every healthy relationship stands on mutual respect.

  • BOUNDARIES: Setting and maintaining boundaries or having personal space for one own self is very important in one's growth and people should have mutual consideration and respect for that.

  • EFFORT: People say that in a relationship everything should be smooth and one should just go with the flow but no, practically, there are ups and downs in every relation and in those times one should make every possible effort to bring back the spark and life of relation.

  • GRATEFULNESS: You should always acknowledge and be grateful to the other person's effort and make him/her feel special and loved.

  • SELF-LOVE: As I always speak about it, loving and respecting one own self is equally important as doing it to the other person involved. It is a must-have attribute for anyone whether in a relationship or not. Always take out time for yourself.

  • DON'T TURN A BLIND EYE: It is very essential to have an unconditional love but don't ever be blind enough to take everything as it comes from the other side. Be upfront about things that bother you.

  • RESOLVE AND RELIEVE: Resolve the issues whenever required. It is always better to dissolve conflicts and relieve yourself with unnecessary emotional baggage. Never hold grudges for each other.

  • UNDERSTANDING: Understanding each other's needs and priorities are of utmost significance in any relation. It grants long-lasting relationships.

  • FIGHTS AND ARGUMENTS: This may sound obnoxious to many but I think that fights and arguments bring betterment to any relationship as it widens the horizon of any relation and makes people realize what went wrong and where. It also aids in improvisations as and when required. But it majorly depends on the individual's perspective as well because if a person is adamant or stubborn in his/her approach it may lead to worse consequences too.

  • REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: Have realistic expectations for both people involved and of relationship per se. Stop faking perfection and idolizing it to an unachievable extent.

  • NO COMPARISONS: Each relation and every individual is unique. Comparisons only bring frustrations and peaceless lives which you are only responsible for. So stop comparisons with others and work out your own salvation.

  • NO OBLIGATIONS: There should be no compulsion or obligations to stay together always. It is just that whenever you are with each other just enjoy each others company to the core and cherish it throughout.

  • FRIENDS BEFORE COUPLE: For romantic relationships, be it a love bond or even marriage for that matter, both individuals should share a friendship bond first. Relationships with pure friendship as its foundation are everlasting.

  • NON-JUDGEMENTAL: But obvious, any relationship in which individuals judge each other for the way they are, bound to create hardships and struggles in the smooth progression of the bond.

  • MAKE DECISIONS TOGETHER: A healthy relationship always resides in a bond where both the persons involved have an equal say in it. At times, it may demand one to compromise on certain aspects while other times another has to lay back but it doesn't make anyone lesser than the other. A decision that comes out should be the amalgamation of both's opinions and agreements.

  • INTIMACY: Of course one of the most important factors of a healthy relationship. Often people relate intimacy with only physical and sexual compatibility and bond but it is far more beyond and above this. Both individuals should definitely have mental intimacy and compatibility as well because that's what maintains the chords in tune with each other in the long run.

  • MAKE EACH OTHER BETTER: Surely a sign of a healthy relationship is when both the persons uplift each other and support immensely both personally and professionally. Encouraging and motivating the other to fulfil his/her dreams and always be by each other's side no matter what.
