How to choose a Red Coral?

As I have mentioned in my previous blog-

Apart from these the other characteristics that should be considered while choosing a Blue sapphire gemstone are:

  • The best Red coral is unheated, untreated and naturally formed in the deep seas which gives the best astrological benefits to the native.

  • The colour of the Red coral is Deep red to soft pink. If the colour is too light or too dark then it might be a fake stone or of semi-precious variety.

  • Practically 100% inclusion-free Red coral is nonexistent. Some inclusions are expected but should be very less for it to be the original one. As red corals won't have any significant inclusions at all.

  • It should have a considerable amount of solidity and hardness. The MOHS scale of hardness for Red coral is 3-4.

  • Its chemical composition is Calcium carbonate, magnesia and organic substance.

  • Its refractive index is 1.486-1.658.

  • Its specific gravity is 2.6-2.7.

  • The best quality Blue sapphire comes from Italy. The other places include Australia, Sri-Lanka, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, Algeria and the USA.

  • The average density is 2.65.

  • It should be at least 6 carats in weight so as to give prominent results. In general, it should be 1/10th of your body weight.

  • There should be uniformity of colour in the entire stone.

  • Should be devoid of any impurity, cracks, lines and blemishes.

  • Should be of required heaviness which marks its difference from the fake stone.

  • How to identify an original Red Coral?

    • Apart from the above-mention characteristics, one can check if given stone leaves colour on rubbing it. Original red coral will not leave colour on rubbing it off against any other material.
    • The colour of the original stone should not be too dark or vivid.
    • Keep the stones in your hand. If it starts feeling warm or hot, then it isn't the original one.
    • Red coral is a fragile stone and is also heat and chemical sensitive. So if you get any harder stone resistant to heat and chemicals, it is probably the fake one.

    • No inclusions will be there in original red coral. The scratches, cuts, blemishes, etc are seen in fake stones.
    • If you are getting the red coral at a cheaper price, then it is 99% fake as natural and original red corals are expensive. While the synthetic red coral comes in 20% the lesser price, the fake one can be bought for 90-95% cheaper than the original one. So beware!
    • Last but not the Least, Seek professional help when in doubt and buy certified stones always.
